Let’s Lose the Cookie Cutters

Posted on 04.26.12 by Paula Hendricks | Twitter: @PaulaWrites678

Do you ever think you have to be like “that woman” in order to be a “true woman”? Change who you are to fit that cookie cutter shape?

Nancy Leigh DeMoss, Mary Kassian, and their friends debunk this myth in this short video. Laugh along with them about some of their own differences—beginning with the ones seen at dinner time!

Diversity of the Sisterhood from TrueWoman 101 on Vimeo.

If you’ve enjoyed these videos we’ve posted for the past several Thursdays, would you share one with a friend? Leave a comment below letting us know you’ve shared a True Woman 101 video (maybe on Twitter, Facebook, or email), and we’ll send three of you a True Woman 101 DVD! (Winners will be selected at random on Monday, April 30.)

  1. How refreshing! I will share with several young women in my church.

My pastor's wife often reminds us that while we are all accountable to follow the truth of the Word, we will manifest those truths in different ways.

  4. It's so wonderful to know that there are women who struggle with the same things that I do. But even more so, laugh at the same things! It makes one feel encouraged in such a lonely cold world.

  5. God made us with different personalities, spiritual gifts, talents, skills, skill levels, preferences, likes and dislikes. E.G. You like purple, so we'll decorate the banquet with purple, although I prefer Silver and black.

Surely, if love covers a multitude of sins (and it does), love can cover a multitude of different personalities, preferences, likes and dislikes. :) We are to defer to the other person (unless unscriptural), in honor, preferring one another, as Rom. 12 tells us. This brings unity rather than discord and schisms. As a pastor's wife, I have seen what the evidence of 1 Cor. 13 in the heart of one who desires to follow the golden rule. May it ever be so in my own life.

Can you say, love other women as you love yourself? :)

God bless you as you seek to please Him!

  6. I'm so glad to hear the gals address this subject. I've often thought to myself, I'm a true woman but I don't look/act/talk/dress like Nancy or any of these other ladies we enjoy so often on ROH and it made me think, "maybe there's something wrong with me!" It's so refreshing to hear their differences and realize there is no cookie cutter true womanhood! Thanks for posting this video.

  8. I just loved this! I had to share with my FB friends! As women we're not supposed to fit some certain mold and everyone be the same. We were created to be different and be good at different things and not feel bad about the things that we're not as good at! Rejoice in our diversity!

  9. I shared the video about Womanhood in the 1950's on my facebook page! I am often sharing the True Woman blog posts that I find particularly fascinating and helpful, and many of my friends comment that they appreciated them as well! Thank you for sharing truth!

  10. Aside from the topic, how wonderful to see women laugh hard. Laughter is good medicine, and those ladies got a good dose of it while recording the videos. God created us with the ability to laugh as much as to cry. We can learn to laugh in purity and truth. What a shame that we don't break out in joyful laughter more often.

I mean, there are some passages in the scriptures that I can't do anything but LOL with God! Like Matthew 15:12 ~ "Then the disciples came to him and asked, 'Do you know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this?'" I chuckle when I read that and say, "Du-u-u-uh!" I mean, how long have the disciples been with the Master? It sounds like they still don't get Him! Of course He knows!

Anyway... I'm off track here from the theme of the video, but I just had to tell you how refreshing it was to see godly women enjoying each other and laughing with gusto!

  11. Amen! This one made me laugh! "Grill it", Nancy says. :) I will share this on FB and I think it will be a good encouragement to my fellow sisters. Sometimes I feel a little discouraged when I "compare" myself with other Christian women. I think well maybe I'm the one doing it wrong, etc...but this is a great reminder that the Lord made me like ME! There is no one like me and he had a specific design when he created me. I shouldn't question that! How boring would it be if we were all the same? Thank you Lord, for the diversity of talents and personalities that you give to us as women!

  12. Ha..This was sooo funny!!! It is so true...we are all different. I'm glad too because I love to eat...meat, vegetables, ice cream (if it doesn't look at me, I eat it)...and Nancy, I'm from the South, forget the grill, we gonna fry that chicken. LOL...Jodi C.

And Jodi, I love it. Fried chicken it is. ;)

Thanks, God, for laughter and friends and the JOY of the Lord that is our strength!

  16. This is powerful! So many of us women are trying to look like or act like the one we feel has it all together, yet on the inside she may be a total mess the same as we are. God has made each of us wonderfully from the inside out. It's time that we embrace our uniqueness!!!

  19. I've loved these little clips and am so looking forward to watching all of them as about 16-20 of us ladies will be doing the study together this summer and plan to use the DVD's corresponding to each session. I've already shared some clips with a couple of them and we all think they're great! I love the transparency and honesty and diversity of the group! (Hopefully, our study group will be like that, too!!) Blessings to you all!

  22. I have just found the web site through a good friend and this video assured me that as a 60+ woman that I am just like these woman in that the Lord made to be differant on purpose for His purpose. I love being a bit crazy at times, quiet at other times and yet still very much a Christian woman that God can use.
