Hey, ladies. Please give a warm, true woman welcome to Trillia Newbell, our newest blogger. I got to spend some time with her this past week at The Gospel Coalition Women’s Conference, and I think you’ll love her! Get to know her a bit today, and then check back next week to read her first post.
Describe yourself in ten words.
Black, Reformed, female. Wife, mom, fitness lover. Journalist, writer, blogger. Those are just a few of the ways I’ve been described. I like to think of myself as a young woman, desperate for God, redeemed by His blood, and eager to serve. Whatever the label, it’s all true.
Tell us about your family.
I’ve been married for nearly ten years to a man who is my best friend. We live together in East Tennessee with our two beautiful biracial babies. I’m a homeschooling mother, thankful for the assistance of a cooperative learning school. I stay at home, but at times I do work outside of the home as a part-time group fitness instructor. When I’m not wiping noses and fixing dinner, I write. I write for my local paper and have written for organizations and magazines such as Desiring God and Christianity Today. And today I’m excited to share that I will be writing for you.
What motivates you to write?
I write for you. My prayer is that my words would be edifying and useful; that I would meet you where you are; or perhaps share something new and inspiring. My desire would be that you would read and come back more aware of Christ’s great work on the Cross and the implications of His resurrection and current intercession on your behalf.
But I also write for God. I write as a way to share the great work and change God has accomplished in my heart and in my life. I want to be honest and vulnerable so God may be magnified and not myself. I write to the praise and glory of the Father. At least those are my desires.
So today I say, “Hello, my name is Trillia.” I look forward to getting to know you better through this community and wonderful organization, True Woman.
