Missing Person: Anyone Know Nicole?

Posted on 08.16.12 by Trillia Newbell | Twitter: @TrilliaNewbell

By the way, we've had an influx of hotel rooms come back on the market for Thursday and Friday night of the True Woman '12 Conference. Please spread the word to your friends that there are now plenty of rooms available downtown!

LockedIt was three a.m. at the True Woman ’10 Conference. Women from around the country were tucked away in their beds. Speakers were resting, preparing to be poured out for the sake of the Gospel. But in the conference bookstore, a 43,000 square foot space for books, products, DVDs, and other resources, a security guard stayed up reading.

The security guard’s name was Nicole. That night, Nicole watched over the bookstore and as she watched, she read, and read, and read some more. The more she read, the more excited she became. By the time Jim Bever, Director of Operations for Revive Our Hearts, came on the scene at 6:30 a.m., Nicole was overwhelmed by the Spirit of God and eager to share all she was learning.

“She talked about how all that night she was reading the books. She would take a book and read it and then take another. It was like she was in a candy store,” said Bever.

Bever immediately assembled a stack of five books for her to take including Lies Women Believe and A 30-Day Walk With God in the Psalms.

Bever wouldn’t see Nicole again after that night, but the impact of their interaction would remain.

“God can use anything. The printed word can go anywhere. It’s exciting to hear someone who responds. God is evident—it was not happenstance,” he said.

In November 2011, about a year after the conference, Nicole remembered Bever and called him at his Revive Our Hearts office. She didn’t reach him but she did leave a message. Here is part of what she said:

“A couple years ago you gave me some books, and one of them was A 30-Day Walk With God in the Psalms. Well, I’ve completed it, and I just would like you to know what an impact it has had on my life. It has helped to transform me spiritually. It has showed me so many miraculous things and has been a major instrument in changing my life. That was the best gift besides the Bible that anyone has ever given me. If you could just know what a change it has brought to my life and so many gifts that have been brought from being transformed by A 30-Day Walk With God . . . Thank you, bless your heart, and I hope to see you again.”

We believe Nicole’s last name is Pollemy. Nicole didn’t leave a call-back number, but Revive Our Hearts and True Woman would like to personally invite her to attend this year’s True Woman ’12 Conference. If you know Nicole or know how to reach her, please let her know she has a complementary ticket to the True Woman ’12 Conference. She can contact the Revive Our Hearts office at 866-842-8381.

As we approach another True Woman Conference in just thirty-five days, may God prepare the hearts of not only the attendees, but the hotel and conference staff, audio technicians, and perhaps another lone security guard as they listen in on what He has to say to them.

  1. Great story!!! We Christians do not live on a desert island, or in a isolated bubble. That's what being salt is all about. Not staying in the salt shaker, but "salting" and impacting all around us as we allow Christ to live out His life through us every day in this world. Thank you for sharing this story!!

  3. Thank you for sharing this, Trillia! I pray that somehow Nicole can be located so that she can attend the conference! Praise God for Mr. Bever's kindness in giving those books to Nicole, and praise God for the fruit that resulted from that kindness. Just another confirmation that our investment of acts of kindness/generosity can reap eternal dividends. Just last week I received a phone call from someone who came across I book I had given her many, many years ago. It was Kay Arthur's book, "How Can I Live?" She is reading it now and it is such a blessing to her. Yes, as Mr. Bever said, "The printed word can go anywhere," and as Isa. 55:11 reminds us, "so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." Amen!

    Blessings,

  4. This just made me smile and smile. God certainly had a "captive audience" in that bookstore!

I'm impressed that Jim Bever was so in tune with what God was doing, and graciously gave her those books. This is just another evidence to me that Revive Our Hearts and True Woman go "beyond the call of duty" to reach out to women in need. Bless you, Jim. It's more than a "job" to you.

And thank you for sharing this story. I sure hope they find Nicole.

  5. Can you see the tears in my eyes? I don't know the cost of attending but if you find her and if i can afford it i will underwrite (at least a portion of) her trip and conference costs -- what an honor that would be. I cannot come; she can be me.....you know where to find me if indeed you find her which i believe with all my heart that you will. Praying.

  6. While this certainly is a timely true story of how God knows exactly where and when to place someone to come into contact with His word, I am concerned that the attention grabbing headline may be misleading. It implies that there may have been some sort of abdustion or other crime involving someone being in danger right now. That is quite beneath the usually high standards of this organization.

I will still be praying for Nicole that she continues to grow in her young faith.
