Another Thirty-Day Challenge

Posted on 01.05.09 by Paula Hendricks
Topics: The Word of God

Nancy just began a series today titled “Getting Into the Word and Getting the Word Into You.” It’s super practical. Follow along to learn how to get into God’s Word, why the Word is so important, and what it can do for you.

More importantly than following this series . . . accept our challenge. For the next 30 days, spend some time alone with the Lord every day in His Word and in prayer. As Nancy says, “Your relationship with God will never be any greater than your relationship with His Word.”

Post a comment below and let us know if you choose to accept this 30-day challenge. Congratulations Beth and Rachel--you've been chosen to receive the new ESV Study Bible! Look for an email from me in your inbox . . .

Stay tuned the rest of this month for a weekly women of the Word give-away!

  1. I loved this quote: "your relationship with God will never be any greater than your relationship with His Word."
I think this year the Lord is calling me to prayer and spending time before Him...so of course I´ll take this challenge!
Thanks for your faithfulness to God and His children.

  7. Thanks for this challenge! I usually do pretty good at having a quiet time with the Lord each day, but occasionally if I'm running late I'll skip it. I've also gotten into the habit of checking my email when I get my coffee, so sometimes that pushes me into running late!
So I'm taking the challenge, but tweaking it a bit so that I have my Bible study and prayer time FIRST (with coffee, of course).

  8. I accept the challenge to be alone with the Lord during the next thirty days in His Word and in prayer. I realize that this is my lifeblood and without it I am without purpose and direction in my life. I already strive to have this daily time with Him but by accepting your challenge I am somehow held accountable on another level.

Now, let's pray that many churches will encourage their people with a challenge like this! I will be forwarding this on to our women to urge them to do this too.

  22. I welcome the opportunity to be challenged and held accountable by you and the other women online. I have been convicted lately how I have been settling to drink spiritual "milk" for quite a while. Lots of excuses...tired alot with 3 small children, husband who travels, recent move, recent family health issues diagnosed, homeschooling mom, etc. ...but none that holds any true weight. I need accountability and am so glad you offered it. I look forward to the next 30 days and beyond. May God continue to bless your ministry as your books, emails, and radio program have blessed mine these past six months.

  41. What a timely challenge! I just shared the following quote yesterday with the ladies in my Sunday School class, "It is inconceivalbe to think that God would give us so much to do that we can no longer spend extended time with Him". This statement is from the book "On the Way" by Gordon Smith as quoted in "Sacred Parenting" by Gary Thomas. Oh May God grant us all a passion for God and His Word that superceeds the enormous pressures found in our daily schedules.

  45. I'm in on the challenge too! The 1st Sunday of the year, those of us who wanted to were asked to testify of God's work in our lives during the past year for which we are thankful. Of course there are so many good things that God has done, but I had to narrow it down. Greatly due to the grace of God working through the ministry of ROH, the word of God has been opened up to me in such a practical way this year. I can testify how putting the Biblical teachings of Nancy and guests into practice has improved my relationship with God, my children and my marriage! Two verses that have kept me on track, and have caused me to see my life in a different light (from an eternal perspective) are Philippians 2:14, and Colossians 3:23. By me accepting the circumstances where God has placed me, His role for me in this world and the work He has given me to do, it seems to have re-wired my brain and given me a new sense of purpose for everyday of my life, to live for the glory of God! So I am thankful to His work in my life through ROH, of opening the word of God up to me to make it real in my life :) Thank You so much, Lord!

How I know I need to invest in my walk with the LORD by being more faithful in the Word and in prayer during this busy season of my life. The New Year is a great time to develop new habits and to get back into good old ones. Nothing is more important than being in the Word and worshiping at His feet. I accept the challenge. 94. Thank you for continuing to teach and exhort us women in the word. I am encouraged about doing this with this ministry and group of women. Since returning from the conference in October I've had some testing and challenges, and am yearning to discipline myself consistently and permanently in regular EARLY morning devotions. Not just reading the word but getting understanding and spiritual insight and direction as I have in the past. My challenge is consistency and I want my devotional life to be just that a lifestyle of unbroken communion with my God. I accept the challenge and look forward with joyful anticipation of the blessings in store.

I am grateful that Nancy continues to listen to the Lord and place these challenges before us! I pray that I can lower my "walls" and let down my defenses - I was so blessed in October at the Women's Conference, I didn't want to come back to the "real world" - but this is where we all live, and this challenge will further enable me to live in grace here. 102. Dear Paula and dear ones at ROH!
I do have a daily quiet time commitment already. But the Lord has convicted me (partly through your post to me the other day, Paula!) that, like Althea above, I need to get back to the consistency of an EARLY MORNING quiet time. I have been trying to get enough rest, and get up to do my husband's breakfast and lunchbox, and somehow got out of an early morning (consistent) habit (other than short prayer and scriptures). Now I tend to do my quiet times at all different times of day, which for me isn't ideal. This is surely the answer to my prayer for a more consistently disciplined life; His direction in the early morning. Back when I did that regularly, my day just felt more ordered. Also, scripture memorization is something I have only done a little of -- here and there -- and want to develop some consistent habit of doing that too.
As far as the Bible, please give it to someone else, as I am blessed already with good study tools (including Libronix/Logos on computer, which has ESV, and hard copy of NKJV Geneva Study Bible). One day I'd enjoy having the ESV Study Bible too but I know many of these sisters have a much greater need than I! So honestly, if you pull my name, please put it back in and give it to someone else.
    Love you at ROH,
    Leslie S.

  109. I'm just coming to the end of reading thru the Bible in a year. It's been a challenge. At times, if I'm honest, it's almost been mechanical. I've asked God's forgiveness for that. I'm now ready to spend some quality time in God's wor. even if that means only 2 or 3 verses at a time. As long as it penetrates my heart and soul, and I can put it into action. So YES, Ladies, Thankyou for the Challenge. I accept. God Bless You All.

This is already an essential in my life--daily time in the Word and prayer; but my 15-yr. old daughter came to me a couple of days ago and asked me to help her come up with a plan for reading the Word this year. One of the things we saw as we were searching a website for different plans was this ESV study Bible. I'm excited to see so many women accepting the challenge! Hopefully the 30 days will turn into a lifetime of being in the Word, with the Lord daily. There is no other way to live the Christian life! The Lord has impressed upon me to take this a step further and incorporate Scripture meditation into my life. His Word is my delight!

With joyful expectation and anticipation, I accept this privilege and opportunity to come and 'feast' at the Lord's Table, to partake of all of the delicious morsels of His Bread of Life He has prepared and laid out for me to partake in His Word; true manna to sustain and fulfill me on this journey of faith HOME, I come to receive! To come to know You, Abba Father God and Christ Jesus, more and more with each step taken in grace and Truth is truly eternal life, John 17:3, and to be sanctified by Your Truth/ 'Your Word is Truth, to be equipped with Your Word of reconciliation with this calling to serve in Your ministry of reconciliation, (2 Corinthians 5: 14-21) is such delight and true satisfying fulfillment, for Your beloved, adopted daughter in Christ Jesus and Spirit! To join in with a group of sisters in Christ, to 'be still and know that You are God', and 'to taste and see that the You, Lord are good' Psalm 34:8 are the best opportunities for me to come to receive Your love and to be changed/transformed into Your image, Christ Jesus! I praise and thank You; may You be glorified! Thank You, so much, LORD, for this privilege! In Your Precious Name, Jesus, I come to humbly bow before Your throne of grace, and sit at your feet, to hear/listen to You speak Your Words of life into my soul. Amen

  170. For the last couple of months I have been trying to get more into reading the Bible, and have, but understanding it has been the challenge (with the help of you and my new church family it makes it easier, except when I want to do it on my own that's where I get tripped up). This study has clearly been an answered prayer for me in my infancy, and with each day of this study you give me the more it helps me with understanding the Word of GOD! I have completely accepted this challenge. Thank You Nancy, I have truly learned alot from YOU, and your studies!! Have a Blessed New Year!

  181. Affirmatively, YES. If we have no wood to fuel our fire it goes out, the same goes for our relationship with God. If we do not have His word everyday, our fire for God grows cold, as well as our love for those around us. I have really been struggling with making time to read God's word in the last year, this is really what I need to get back on track. Thank you Nancy, I really need this.

It was such a joy to get into the Word of God this morning and read about the foolishness of God being wiser the wisdom of men and the weakness of God being stronger than the strength of men. It was truly a blessing to my heart. The only thing I said the whole time was "Good Morning Lord" and I let Him do the rest of the talking. It is amazing what you can learn when you are quiet.

  258. I accept this challenge. I want to grow closer to the Lord this year. He is coming back sooner than we think, we have to have our lamps trimmed and burning bright for his return, he is looking for his bride, as for me I want to be ready to meet Him.
Thank you Nancy for this challenge, may God richly bless you.

  260. I gladly accept this challenge to read God's word. I love the word. This will be my second year to read the word in 90 days. It's my seventh time through the word since 2001. What a blessing it is to me.

God bless you Nancy Leigh. I love to listen to your program while I drive my 106 mile mail route. You bless me much.
