Dear Grumpy Church Ladies

Posted on 01.31.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti

Hey, you. Yes, you. I mean no disrespect. You are after all, my sisters in Christ. We are part of the same family. So, if you don't mind, I'd like to address you with the kind of frankness that only a sister can. I'm just going to say it . . . Those frowns are not becoming.

A Disturbing Conversation

Posted on 01.30.12 by Karen Waddles

My niece immediately charged me with being intolerant. "Christians don't have a right to say that their beliefs are the right ones. Everyone's beliefs are on an equal plane and should be respected!"

Let's Make a Deal

Posted on 01.27.12 by Nancy Leigh DeMoss | Twitter: @NancyDeMoss

We can be a legalistic lot. Put the option of daily devotions on the table most mornings, and too often the factor that finally tips us in the direction of prayer and Bible reading is the one that says, "God will be disappointed in me if I don't."

Is Your Marriage Morphing?

Posted on 01.26.12 by Holly Elliff
Topics: Marriage

There's a parallel between this fictional movie and how couples relate in marriage. Andromeda grew and adapted to fit itself for survival, and as strange as it sounds, our marriages need that type of tenacity!

An Unlikely Friendship

Posted on 01.25.12 by Paula Hendricks | Twitter: @PaulaWrites678

I wish I’d known earlier that God blesses us with friends of all ages! When I graduated college, I floundered for a while. No one had warned me that I wouldn't always have a group of friends just like me.

Too Old to Connect with Teens?

Posted on 01.24.12 by Dannah Gresh

Recently, I sat riveted under the rich teaching of Pastor Johnny Hunt. And I wasn't the only one. This year, Pastor Hunt will be sixty, but that didn't keep him from completely capturing the attention of 6,500 teenagers whose average age was probably fifteen!

Eureka! Studying the Bible with Our Children

Posted on 01.23.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti

I came to faith in Christ as a child, but struggled for years to have a consistent time of reading the Bible. About ten years ago, God gave me the idea of reading the Bible with my children, and that has been my quiet time ever since . . .

Duck and Cover for Quiet Time

Posted on 01.20.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti

The idea of a personal quiet time often feels impossible to moms. How can we carve out daily time to be with the Lord when we can't even go to the bathroom by ourselves?

Jonah’s Temper Tantrum

Posted on 01.19.12 by Paula Hendricks | Twitter: @PaulaWrites678
Topics: Impacting your world

While the whole running away from God ordeal was pretty embarrassing, I’ve think Jonah's temper tantrum with God in chapter four tops even that. Much to his chagrin and our entertainment, we get to observe the whole thing! It’s almost humorous, until we realize we’re not really all that different . . .

Mom's in the Hospital!

Posted on 01.18.12 by Karen Waddles

With my cell phone in one hand and a bag of turnip greens in the other, I was torn. Would I be a bad daughter if I didn’t immediately leave the produce aisle and rush to the airport, catching a flight to Kansas to take care of my mother?

Please, God, no!

Posted on 01.17.12 by Maryann Loveing

I can remember the day like it was yesterday. This wasn't supposed to happen to "good girls" like me. I was a single, seventeen-year-old girl who had grown up in the church, the daughter of a bi-vocational pastor.

God Never Wastes Your Pain

Planner or Free Spirit?

Posted on 01.13.12 by Staci Eastin
Topics: When Life's Hard

I am one of the non-planners of the world. I convinced myself I was a free spirit--an artiste. I couldn't box my creative self in by something as mundane as plans. I smugly told myself that I didn't need to make plans, because I had faith.

In the Butterfly Palace

Posted on 01.12.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti

After several minutes of examining butterflies with a gigantic magnifying glass, I sat down on a bench next to a fantastic specimen with gorgeous white wings. I looked at her for a minute and then . . . I checked my email!

Posted on 01.11.12 by Karen Waddles

I'd struggle with starts and stops through the rest of the year--not to mention the weight of guilt for not "measuring up" as a Christian!

The Perks of Multigenerational Living

Posted on 01.06.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti
Topics: Relationships with Others

I'm not advocating that you call your children and grandchildren and announce you are adding a wing on to your house just for them. But, I do think it is wise for all of us to take note that multigenerational living, mentoring, and connection is part of God's plan for the family.

In the Gap with God

Posted on 01.05.12 by Kimberly Wagner | Twitter: @KimberlyWagner7

Has God ever asked you to do something you thought impossible? Pushed you beyond your comfort level? Invited you to step into that sacred gap that lies between your natural abilities and His assignment for you?

My Four Teens Memorized Psalm 119

Posted on 01.04.12 by Maryann Loveing

He was reclining on his bed playing a video game on his iPad. Or so I thought. As I entered his room to say good night, I realized my seventeen-year-old son had his Bible propped open on his knees.

Posted on 01.02.12 by Nancy Leigh DeMoss | Twitter: @NancyDeMoss

At the start of this new year, I want to challenge you to make a different kind of New Year's resolution--not a resolution to lose something, like a few pounds or a bad habit, but a resolution to gain everything truly worth having!
