Mothering Well When Your Child's Father Sins

Posted on 02.29.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti

You may be the unpopular parent for a while. Your kids may stray, they may make some bad choices themselves, but so many times I have seen those same kids come back to the truth their mom not only taught them but lived in front of them. God in you is their best chance.

Observing Lent

Posted on 02.22.12 by Nancy Leigh DeMoss | Twitter: @NancyDeMoss

The churches I grew up in did not observe Lent in any formal sense. But in recent years, I have started setting aside these weeks to fix my eyes on Christ in a more intentional way.

To Flirt or Not to Flirt

Posted on 02.21.12 by Mary Kassian | Twitter: @MaryKassian

The "look." The tilt of the head. The flip of the hair. The sway of the hips. The deliberate caress of a curve. The cross of the legs. The leisurely forward lean. The titillating exposure of skin. The brush of the bottom lip. The cat-like stretch. The lingering touch . . . by the time a female reaches adulthood, she's typically been well-versed in all the classic flirt moves.

Your words have power, friend! Whether your husband is a Potiphar, a Pilate, or Joe Schmo, he's listening to what you whisper in his ear. How will you use your power to sway?

The Proverbs Project

Posted on 02.17.12 by Carrie Ward | Twitter: @AnEverydayMama
Topics: With Your Kids

We enjoyed our lunch and conversation, paid the check, and headed out to the car. Then it happened. She said these words: "Wouldn't it be neat if some parents taught their children to memorize the entire book of Proverbs before they left home?" I didn't say anything, but what I was thinking was, "Oh yeah, that would be neat . . . for some other parents!"

As time went on, my heart healed, but the longing for a family of my own never left. And in another part of Michigan that same fall, a young wife and mom received a terrifying diagnosis from her doctor.

Why You Need to Know What's Happening on the Hill . . . And Act!

Posted on 02.13.12 by Erin Davis | Twitter: @ErinGraffiti

One of the first rules for proper conversation is to avoid the topics of sex and politics. I’m about to tackle both. There’s trouble brewing in the political realm. As a result of a recent mandate by the Obama administration, the issue at hand is the future of religious liberty.

Grace-Motivated . . . Dieting?

Posted on 02.09.12 by Carolyn McCulley | Twitter: @CarolynMcculley

Rather than being motivated by youth culture and absurd (and shifting) standards of beauty, we should be motivated by stewardship: how ready is your body to serve others?

Black History Month: Telling the Story of God's Mighty Power

Posted on 02.08.12 by Karen Waddles

In many ways, that is what Black History Month is to African-Americans. It is a time to remember and re-tell the story of how God moved on our behalf throughout history--eradicating slavery and opening doors that had been closed. It is a time, once again, to testify of His mighty hand and to be in awe of His power!

Pathway to Freedom

Posted on 02.07.12 by Debra Fehsenfeld
Topics: When Life's Hard

I have come to believe that the basic pattern for change is the same no matter what the habit or addiction: dependence on God, trusting Him for help one day at a time, purposing to avoid the "triggers," adding health-promoting routines, and becoming saturated with the truth of God.

Free at Last!

Posted on 02.06.12 by Debra Fehsenfeld

In my teenage years, I became a slave to bulimia. I loved and enjoyed food, but I didn't want it to "catch up with me." How delighted I was to find this way of eating what I wanted without consequences--or so I thought.

Faith, Hospitality, and Wet Paint

Posted on 02.03.12 by Carolyn McCulley | Twitter: @CarolynMcculley
Topics: True Woman Conferences

Tonight I landed in Santo Domingo once again and walked into the Revive Our Hearts Conference--which was being held in the new IBI building. It was an impressive feat, and a physical representation of the faithful perseverance and Godward trust of the people of IBI. The building, gleaming in the warm Dominican evening, was faintly redolent of new paint. Inside were 3,000 women . . .
