Immanuel Church in Nashville, Tennessee, might be less than one year old, but Jani Ortlund, pastor’s wife and Women’s Ministry Director, has a burden for women to understand and live out their God-given design. To help do that, Jani has started a series of meetings focused on true womanhood using the DVDs from True Woman ’08.
Why did your church decide to hold these True Woman events?
I was the only woman from Immanuel Church able to attend True Woman ’08. I promised to bring home as much as I could, and I found our women very eager to participate and grow from all that was presented.
I was so personally challenged and encouraged by what went on. I feel it’s so important that women understand what God has called us as women to be.
How are you incorporating aspects of True Woman ‘08 into your events?
In addition to watching the DVDs, we ordered True Woman handkerchiefs for each woman and a copy of the True Woman manifesto. I feel any woman can take the manifesto and read it and see what the Bible teaches about being a woman of God. It’s the theology of womanhood. I want all women to have it in their hand.
What’s been the feedback so far from your meetings?
I felt that most who came had a heart for Christ and needed encouragement to follow Him with all their feminine souls. One woman did bring an unbelieving friend to the first meeting. Afterward that friend said, “I want to go and tell my neighbor about this.”
After we watched Mary Kassian’s message, one woman commented, “I didn’t know there was a revolution in 1968. I want to be part of this new revolution!”
Can you share about your heart for this movement?
My prayer is that God would spread the revolution here as He did in Chicago—that He would ignite in women’s hearts their love for Him, a stronger resolve to live boldly for Christ and to embrace all He has for us as women. I’m asking God to give us a revolution among women, a new hunger and thirst for Christ in all His glory and what it means to follow Him as women.
How about you? What can you do to be a part of this new revolution?

showing the DVD's and wow are they powerful. After
watching Mary's message, I just sobbed. I am 40 years old and I can see how I was influenced. I want to submit deeper and deeper to the woman God intended for me to be. Part of me feels that in Him, he calls us to be softer, meeker, more loving, and gentle. Our open hearts are so important. We don't have to be brash and controlling. Being subserviant (the word means "useful in promoting a purpose or end) to Him, he will carve out in us how he intended us to be. More loving, more honest, more real, and more like Him. Thank you for this message. He's also been calling me to Nashville and I didn't know why!
