Special Weekend Coverage: Seven Practical Tips for Moms and Mentors

Posted on 04.18.09 by Paula Hendricks | Twitter: @PaulaWrites678
Topics: Sexuality, With Your Kids

The girls are back in their classes now; Maryann Loveing just finished talking to the moms and mentors, and Marlae Gritter is about to address them. After sharing her testimony, Maryann gave the moms some very practical steps they can take with their daughters:

  • Teach her truth while she is young.
  • Help her establish a daily walk with God. (When we’re getting too busy to take our daughters to the Word, we need to reorder our personal world.)
  • Be “H.O.T.” about your own failures: honest, open, and transparent.
  • Tell your kids when you’ve messed up and you’re sorry. Our kids need to know that we’re not perfect.
  • Date your daughter. Do what SHE likes. (Yes, even if it means spending time in Claires! Ask them questions about their week. What are their greatest challenges? What are they most excited about?)
  • Encourage godly examples (female/male) that promote right(eous) living. (We have to be their first role model. We can’t go home and watch Desperate Housewives and then expect them to be pure.)
  • Do not fear being counter-cultural.
  • Steps to a healthy marriage begin now.

I’m going to go see how the girlys are doing . . .

  2. I was at this conference today. It touched me on such a personal level. I didn't grow up with a positive mother as a role model. I felt I never really had an example to raise my daughter. I truley feel like I'm on the road now. Thank you so much for this conference! It rocked me and my daughter. We've never really prayed hard together and she cried! I loved that her heart was touched in such a positive way. Thank you Jesus, and Thanks Revive our Hearts.

  3. I was really blessed by the conference! I was convicted of areas that I have not been doing what I should be doing and I was reminded of my worth in Christ! I know that when I remember what Christ did for me, and how He loves me, I will be better able to share that love to my daughters! My girls were both blessed and we all cried and reached a level of intimacy we never had before. Thanks

  4. My daughter and I had a wonderful time and are very thankful for ROH for doing this! What a great time to be planting seeds of Purity! This session (Maryann's) was my favorite...all the moms around me could have listened to her all afternoon! We wanted to hear more! Thank you!!!

  5. Awesome, Carrie! I’m rejoicing with you, and praying that you will continue to run hard after Jesus, and fight hard for your daughter’s affections for Him, too. You ARE “on the road now,” and you’re not alone—Jesus is with you each step of the way. You go, girl!

  7. I’m so glad you attended this weekend’s conference, Jen. And that you enjoyed Maryann. She’s amazing. You can follow her family blog here http://loveings.blogspot.com/, or attend one of her women’s luncheons at any of Life Action’s THIRST Conferences. http://www.lifeaction.org/conferences/

  8. I agree, I loved Maryann's session. My friend sitting next to me leaned over afterwards and said "we want more!!!!" Her advice was so practical and yet so full of God's truth. Thanks to all the women who spoke from God's word and from their own heart and life experience as well. May God bless each and every one of you!!!
