As you already know, this month we’re giving you the opportunity to bless your pastor and his wife with a giveaway for a Romantic Reflections Retreat at The Lodge. We’re also seeking to grow in our hospitality. So, for the month of July, I thought it would be fun to share a few of The Lodge’s recipes with you.
If you only knew . . .
If only you knew how special this is. The Lodge’s food is out of this world! As pastors and leaders have come through the doors, they have continued to ask for copies of these recipes. The Lodge has just recently compiled these for a soon-to-be-released cookbook.
You’re one of the first
You’re the first to get a public sneak preview of a few of the recipes that will be included in the cookbook that will be released sometime this fall. Watch www.LifeAction.Org/Store to order your own copy.
Your Fourth of July Menu
You probably already have your Fourth of July menu planned, but just in case you don’t—here’s a great recipe for a crowd. You’ll need to start right away, though, as it needs 8-10 hours in the slow cooker.
Enjoy, and let me know if you think it’s a keeper!
Jane's Barbecue Beef
¼ cup vinegar
4 teaspoons prepared mustard
1 cup water
1 teaspoon salt
¼ cup sugar
1 cube beef bouillon
½ cup margarine
2 medium onions, sliced
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 cup ketchup
4 pounds beef chuck roast
Cook the chuck roast with 1 cup water in slow cooker for 8–10 hours or until very tender. Cool and shred meat with 2 forks. Combine the vinegar, mustard, water, salt, sugar, beef bouillon, margarine, and onions in a saucepan; simmer 30 minutes. Add the Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and shredded beef and simmer for 20 more minutes. Serve on hamburger buns or rolls. Serves: 8–10

I'm not exactly sure . . . I'd first see if the meat fits in your crock pot. If it doesn't, you can cook the meat in the oven in a 13 x 9 pan or a dutch oven with a lid. It won't take nearly as long this way--I asked my mom, and she thought 3 hours at 300 degrees. Hope that helps!

As a fellow-sweet toother, I can understand your desire for a sweet sauce. I just searched for "barbeque beef" at Cooks.com, and found this recipe right away. Hopefully it's what you're looking for:
